European Folk Day – September the 23rd
23 primary schools in Ross-shire and Inverness will be participating in traditional Scottish music sessions in their classrooms on Monday 23rd September! Pupils will be singing Scots and Gaelic songs, learning about tune types and rhythms, playing traditional Scottish tunes on the tin whistle, ukulele and tuned percussion, and learning about their local culture. A team of fabulous and fun professional musicians will be delivering the sessions in partnership with class teachers.
The sessions on Monday are part of a wider Highland traditional music project, which is managed by Fèisean nan Gàidheal and coordinated by local Fèisean. The classes on Monday in Inverness and Ross-shire have been coordinated by Fèis Rois.
The project is part of High Life Highland’s Youth Music Initiative programme and funded through the Scottish Government’s Youth Music Initiative, administered by Creative Scotland.
