European Folk Day – September the 23rd
OPTUR meets the audience with extroverted play and a deeply rooted danceable, Nordic atmosphere.
With more than 40 years of experience from the Danish and international folk scene, Søren Korshøj composed a series of new dance melodies based on the Nordic folk music tradition. His main idea was to form an ensemble that could play dance music with edge, surprising improvisational passages and the occasional touch of humor. The alternation between the strictly thematic and the improvisational interaction in free and open spaces gives each instrumentalist the opportunity to express both their individual and collective potential, and the opportunity to create an intense expression together with the audience that captures the music of the moment. By gathering experienced musicians across different music genres – to contribute to the creation of a new and unique Nordic sound – our own form of musical expression arose: We call it Nordic Free Folk.
The concert is presented as part of the program in European Folk Day(s) 2024.
