European Folk Day – September the 23rd
In the autumn of 2019, the verbunk dance tradition was inscribed on the UNESCO National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This dance and the closely related tradition of the Csárdás dance is preserved by the Verbunk Day event series. This year, for the 4th time, the tradition-keeping all-day event will take place in Komárom and Sepsisentgyörgy across the border, in Nyíregyháza and Kóny in Hungary and, of course, in the Hungarian Heritage House.
Hungarian Heritage House
During the performance, all ages from 8-year-old children’s soloists to 80-year-old traditionalists, from amateur dancers to professional performers, will perform. The Heritage National Folk Art Association for Children and Youth, the Muharay Elemér Folk Art Association and the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble guarantee that from Gyimes to Rábaköz, from Gömör to Sárköz, our most beautiful verbunk and csárdás will be presented in this colourful and diverse show.
The programme will feature:
Hungarian State Folk Ensemble,
Kecskemét Dance Ensemble,
The soloists of the Szarvasi Solo Dance Competition
Nagyecsedi Rákóczi Kovács Gusztáv Traditional Dance Ensemble
Lajos Murguly, Master of Folk Art
