European Folk Day – September the 23rd
Zoltán Halmi, folk dance researcher, will give a lecture at the House of Traditions on the dance life and dances of Kétegyháza, in which he will give a comprehensive picture of the dance culture of this village in the South Great Plain, mostly inhabited by Romanians, from the mid-20th century to the present day.
The lecture examines the relationship between individual dance skills and the community dance tradition in this Romanian community in Hungary, and tries to place the ethno-ethnic characteristics of the village in the context of the Romanian community in the South-Eastern Lowlands. The focus is on dance calendars, dance and music, but also on costumes and their changes in the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as on significant days, beliefs and traditions of social gatherings.
